Pattern for Sunbonnet Sue Hankie quilt block

Many of you have been asking for a pattern and instructions for the Sunbonnet Sue Hankie quilt.  Thanks to being sick on President's Holiday and not being able to go on our anniversary date, I had a little time to work on this.   ENJOY!!! :)

If you would like the pattern itself, you can find it here:

Pattern for Sunbonnet Sue Hankie Quilt Block

1.  Collect Hankies
2. Make sure they are clean :)
3.  Cut out patterns and if desired, make plastic templates for fussy cutting. (I used a sheet of laminate, run through the laminating machine empty.  It is clear and easy to see through)
4.  Fold in quarters
5. Use template to cut squares
6. Save leftovers for use a bonnet, blouse, or parasol
7. Experiment with placement of blouse, bonnet and parasol pieces on leftovers or other fabrics
8.  Cut out blouse, bonnet, and parasol pieces (it is easier to cut about 4 at a time with the hankie fabric because it is so soft and thin)
9.  Use a quilt block about 13 x 13", according to your tastes to arrange the pieces on.
10.  Cut a square of wonder under or fusible web that is smaller than the skirt piece.  Cut strips to go under the blouse, bonnet, and parasol.  Iron pieces to the quilt block.
11. Stitch around edges of pieces.  I like the zig-zag, but you can use whatever stitch you like.  If your quilt block  fabric is thin, you may want to use a stabilizer it.
12.  Press. :)

Steps with Pictures:

6. Save leftovers for use as bonnet, blouse, or parasol

 7. Experiment with placement of blouse, bonnet and parasol pieces on leftovers or other fabrics

8.  Cut our blouse, bonnet, and parasol pieces (it is easier to cut about 4 at a time with the hankie fabric because it is so soft and thin)  Also, I like to pin the paper pattern to the fabric once I have decided with the plastic one where I want it to be.

 9.  Use a quilt block about 10 x 12", according to your tastes to arrange the pieces on.
10.  Cut a square of wonder under or fusible web that is smaller than the skirt piece.  Cut strips to go under the blouse, bonnet, and parasol.  Bonnet looks better close or touching the blouse.
Iron pieces to the quilt block.

 11. Stitch around edges of pieces.  I like the zig-zag, but you can use whatever stitch you like.  If your quilt block  fabric is thin, you may want to use a stabilizer it.
12.  Press. :)

Note: this is what you get when your quilt block is too lightweight and you don't use a stabilizer.  Puckering up is o.k. for Valentine's Day, but it doesn't go so well with Sunbonnet Sue!  :)
